I had the pleasure of meeting sweet Isabella recently. She came to visit as part of a mentoring session I did with Tiffany Hampton Photography. Tiffany came all the way from Berea, KY to watch and learn what I do! But Tiffany isn’t just anybody – she is also a best friend and someone I’ve known my whole life. We went to church camps together starting at just 8 years old. She was my first college roommate. She was with me through the crazy early adulthood years, the dating years, and we were each other’s maid of honors. I hadn’t seen her in way too long, but was reminded just how much we have in common during her visit. I was so sad to see her go!

So we started with sweet Isabella. We had about an hour to work with this sweet baby, and she did fantastic.  She was so sweet, with the prettiest face. It was so nice to meet her mama, as well. I’ve known her sister for a long time, and she was so kind to send her our way when she saw we were looking for some babies to pose for us. 🙂

This session was a great start to our mentoring session! Here are a few of the photos that were taken! Of course, I have to share previews in black & whites sometimes, so here you go!

How in the world has Ruby turned into this sweet 6 month old so fast? Time sure has flown since her newborn session. It feels like yesterday!

Georgia and Ruby are so cute together. Georgia did such a great job holding and loving on sweet Ruby.

I am so glad these flowers are blooming this time of year. They make for a great backdrop for photos! I used them a couple weeks ago at this 12 month session, too!

Look at this sweet face, and those lips!

I look forward to seeing this family again in 6 months!

I’m so excited to share this surrogate birth story. You may recall my excitement from when I shared the maternity photos! I knew it was going to be an amazing birth, and it was!

This is not just a surrogate story, but a vbac story as well. We knew anything could happen with this birth. Mateo was very comfy in the belly of his carrier. When she went in to be induced a week late, however, it turns out she was already in labor! Not only was she in labor, but things were moving super fast! I got the call that she was at a 6, thinking I could take my time and head to the hospital at a leisurely pace. Just a few minutes later, I got a text that she was already at an 8, so I decided it was time to rush. Thankfully I got to the hospital in plenty of time, but by the time I did arrive about 45 minutes later, she was complete. Talk about a fast labor! I’m so glad I didn’t take my time after all!

When I arrived, the room was full of happy anticipation. Look at the joy on Mateo’s daddy’s face, as he waits for his newborn son.

This amazing carrier did fantastic! I never heard her complain a single time!

Mateo arrived effortlessly. I wasn’t sure if he was pushed out, or if he just came out. It was so smooth and fast!

He went straight into his daddy’s arms for snuggle time.

Grandma was also there, and of course, she couldn’t wait to meet him. Mateo wanted to check her out, too.

Anyone who follows me knows that I can’t resist newborn toes. 🙂

Fingers, too! One of my very favorite things to capture in any session are the details.

Mateo wasn’t out of the womb for long when he was already smacking his lips. His sucking reflex is strong!

Look at those little leg wrinkles!

Baby arm and ear hair is so amazing too. It’s one of those things they lose within a couple weeks, so I try to capture it before it’s gone.

And for now I’ll end with his first bath!

I’m so honored to have been a part of this birth story!

I had such a nice time getting to know Amelia and her family! She was very curious the day I came to visit, and wanted to show us her beautiful eyes. But you know what? I didn’t mind at all. Why wouldn’t we want to see those beautiful eyes of hers?!?

Here are some photos of our time together. 🙂

I couldn’t resist taking some of this beauty while Amelia was eating. What a sweetie!

Look at those bright eyes!

It isn’t uncommon for babies to stay awake in their sessions. Often new photographers worry they are doing something terribly wrong, and it adds stress to sessions. If this is you, don’t worry! It is normal and it is fine! All babies have awake periods, and while you can try to get them into a sleepy state, you can’t 100% control when it will happen. So if baby is awake, I encourage you to not see it as something you’ve done wrong, but to embrace it. Parents love awake shots. And if you put aside those preconceived ideas, I think you’ll find you love them, too. 🙂 I sure do!

Here is another awake baby from earlier this year!
